Suvarnabhumi Airport - Departure Terminal. (SQ check-in area). Morning.

During last May '07, and Jan '08. Was twice approached by a youngish, Chinese national lady, speaks Mandarin in approach.

Description : Age, mid or late 20s, shoulder length hair, height 1.55m, pimple dotted face.

Approach : Begins by asking in Mandarin (or English) : "Sir, Do you understand Mandarin or English?"

She claims to have been robbed or have personal belongings stolen in Bangkok, and made police report. Asked to help her, and loan her US$ or RMB, and promises to repay by remitting the money back.

Oh, had this experience once in Don Muang airport as well. 2 chinese dudes claiming to have lost their money and credit card limit exceeded. Seeing I'm a chinese as well, they claimed "chinese should help chinese." My ass. I smile and politely said "No." and walked away. Shame.

a good way to walk away with a smile is to tell them in spanish (my spelling is wrong) "yo to quiere mamar la panoche"..... this means i want to suck your pussy. they will have no idea what you said, but you get points across... one, you are speaking a language they have never neard and teo, you have left them with a great insult, much the same way people speak of farang while in Thialand if Thais know you don't speak or understanf Thai.

I encountered something similar but not in Thailand. Someone approaches you and said that they just went to the doctor and did not have enought $$$ to pay for the medication. Asked if you would be so kind to loan her $10 and he'll pay you back.

Another encounter I had was not my house, this woman approaches me and said she had mental problem and is undergoing psychiatric treatment and could I give her $$$ to pay for her next treatment. I declined and walked away looking back to see if she'll run amok and chased after me and hurt me with her thick-soled slipper.

I am from Singapore and I encountered these two incidents in Singapore not in Thailand.

This is simple... just smile and say go see police then walk away?.
If your being bugged find a police officer point out the person.

One thing a scammer hates is attention from the police. or security..

Now if everybody did that then the scams will stop??.

I encounter the same scam at airport on 15 March 2:00 P.M. A woman at her forty approach me and ask me "Are you Chinese? " " Can you speak Chinese? " Tjen tell her fairy tale that she and her daughter from Shanghai and her girl lost her wallet and hope I can help her out by giving her couple hundred dollars, of course she promise to pay back back to Shanghai. I just give her a look and leave. BE CAUTION ESPECIAL YOU ARE ASIAN OR YOU CAN SPEAK CHINESE. This scam happened at airport long years.!!!

Yes, I was approached twice at BKK Int'l, and chose not to understand or speak Chinese. First one was a business-like looking man with a wheeled hand luggage. The other was a mid-thirties lady - also with a wheeled baggage.

The first time was actually years ago at the Hanoi airport when 2 Chinese "businessmen" approached me. Seeing I was Chinese-looking he politely asked: Could I speak Chinese? Answering in the affirmative, he then showed me a businesscard indicating he's GM of a company in China. He said he's stranded (now can't recall the very legit reason given), and without cash to buy the last leg for his journey home. After much persuasion to assist a fellow-Chinese and assuring that I would be repaid, I agreed (but not to give him the cash) to buy his fare. Quickly, he asked if I could do the same for his "friend" - to which I refused. He asked "Why?" "I don't have the cash" I replied - to which I can use my credit card.
Ever so difficult to openly declare that I don't trust him, I had to keep my word of agreeing to buy his fare - which I subsequently did with my credit card.
For completion, he even asked for my name & contact info so he "could return the loan". After, 7 years now, I am still awaiting satisfaction.

This case happened to me last saturday about 5 am in front of the entrance to the immigration area at Suvarnabhumi Airport . The chinese lady in black shirt and scarf approached my father and started to talk to him in Chinese. She said that she missed her flight and needed some money to go back. Lucikly, my father realized the lady because he's been asked by the same lady before and a couple of his friends has also been fooled by the same lady...My father quickly shouted and threatened the lady the he would call the police...The lady got scared and quickly ran away...So Beware people!!!

HA HA HA...It happens in many countries....for example, if you are in Barcelona and look american or english, there is a famous 50 years old woman that EVERY DAY is asking for money, with a similar line.

And in Uruguay, where I llive, and there arent many asian people, some korean crook try to get money from korean sailors....

People of different races and ethnias try the same to get some easy money...some of them are gipsys or jewish, they speak many languages and take a stroll near hotels or tourist attractions and work in groups, some of them talk to you in English, other in Italian or German, and probably some asians do the same, trying different languages and pretending to be from your own country
