Scammers on Khao San
Friday, 11 January 2008
There's a really dodgy looking white conman who lurks on Khao San road almost every day.  He' plays the part of a tourist very well, wearing a fanny pack and sporting a large beer belly to boot.  He's usually accompanied by a nasty looking old Thai man.  These two pray on good-natured tourists by approaching them with a friendly smile and an offer of help.  The white guy will do the talking and claim to be from your country.  He will then take your map and circle places he recommends you go.  He will encourage you to buy sapphires.  Then this tuk tuk driver conveniently appears and offers to drive you around all day for 40 baht.  If you see these guys (and you will) be careful, but also let them know what you think of them.

There are so many scams on Khao San rd. The backpackers get robbed there daily and most don't even realize it! I think the most popular scam from there is the Scam Bus. They charge like 300 baht for a bus to a destination in the south like Koh Pha ngan or Krabi and while you sleep they rob you. It's even known even if you have your suitcase/backpack with you they have been caught trying to go through your things right next to you/under you.

that is why there is tourist police these days, but better get a little smarter, these tourists usually are complete dummies, with plenty of money (to an average Thai) and a lot of air, then you blame the Thai? I have deep respect for their tolerance since almost nothing gets stolen in Thailand, by far the most honest country that I know in the world when it comes to stealing, try this in Amsterdam hahaha how stupid can you be, wake up. you are no gods!!!

And the Indian Sikh mind readers scam at the corner of Khao San Road and about the second laneway from Thanon Tanao/Tanao Road, on the north side of Khao San Road.

That's the funniest post I've read on her for a while.

next time you notice a " this area has pickpockets, mind your money" sign in some of the tourist areas, observe how many ppl thouch the pocket their money is in ( just to check) when they notice the sign.

great tip off to the pick pockets to save them time

Khun Bird Have you been in Amsterdam? And got ripped off? Traveling by the underground here one meets huslers almost daily. In Bangkok I just act the same way I learned to do in Amsterdam. I just ignore people talking to me in the streets. Anyway I think tourists are looking for trouble themselfs. The mayor here wants to get rid of the red light district. But the pimps claim its one of the main tourist attractions. Tourists dont come here to see windmills exept for the japanese and the oldies maybe.Seeing windmills one doesnr get ripped off. But they want to smoke hashies, sold everywhere legaly, drink alcohol, go to the red light district and than complain the got ripped off and complain the police doesnt help them. Same in Thailand. Why are people going to Pat Pong? See the sh.? Khao San Road? Why? There are better places to go in Thailand. Where there is less risk of getiing ripped off. And one can meet nice people there too

I can asure you most of the decent Bangkok Thai will never go to Pat Pong Probably some havent even been there during their life time. Just like decent people here dont go to the red light district. So what kind of falang are going to Pat Pong? Decent people? Or even worse: going to live there?
