Wow great site, however after 47 trips in 6 years, the most that has happend to me is overpaying a taxi 40 baht or so. Maybe i just have more common sense. Some how I think the last comment from Rob is somewhat full of shit, how long is he spending in Thailand on each trip if he has gone 47 times in the last 6 years? If my maths is right then thats something like a trip every 6 weeks. Maybe he is just oblivious to the fact he is being ripped off.

Well, I have been to BKK 8 times in the past two years staying an average of 6-10 weeks each time, I don't speak Thai and I don't dress rich or flash cash around. I stay out late 4 or so times a month (well after midnight) sometimes walking the city for kilometers at 4am till sunrise. Got scammed once on a tripod for 400 Baht, found same later for 200. Once had a taxi try to flat-rate me 400 Baht to airport, I waited for the next one at 120 Baht by meter. If I leave a bar late, I walk well away from all the shark taxis waiting for the stupid drunks and flag a passing taxi. One time I was walking down the sidewalk and a tuktuk tried to get me to go in his tuk, I said I am just going across the street, he said it is hard to cross I will drive you. I said I can walk. Then he offered sexy lady, I said I have girlfriend, I only go to bar for beer, then he said I take you to bar for cheap beer, I said how cheap, he said something like 40 Baht, I said not interested, him: ok 20 Baht, me: no, him: 10 Baht, me: no, him: beer for free, me: no, I don't want free beer. Boy was he stupid to think I would fall for free beer, what a scam! Maybe I just have more common sense?

Been 10 times and been in some funny & alkward situations due to drunkeness.Been ripped off a bit by taxi & tuk & bar girl. But also had some great experienses with men & women [not gay] that were not to expensive.I now visit the same girl every time & have calmed down somewhat & she teaches me the Thai way. Its very interesting. I have never fallen for any of these street scams , just the same as you don't fall for them at home.I have payed over the top for things for not agreeing the price first & learned by my mistakes. I like the place. Don't get too drunk.

i think i came across one of these ladies' she was actualy very polite, the tuk tuk driver on the other hand was not listening to my directions (now i know why) so i just got out and walked' easy, no problem' now i only walk or take taxi meter, no tuk tuk anymore.

I've traveled a lot and I think any one who is unfamiliar with an area, still dazed, in culture shock, and jet-lagged can fall victim to a scam. So, I think Rob is full of shit.
