Tailor Scams
Tuesday, 11 December 2007

I recently arrived in Bangkok by myself and was oblivous to a lot of the scam type thing apart from what I read in lonely planet....here's one I fell for...

Having just come out of the grand palace in Bangkok I proceeded down towards the reclining budda wat pho.......As I was walking I resisted a number of tuk tuk invitations for 10 baht to take me to other places....and most probably to gem stores...I eventually was approached by some older thail man who seemed really genuine.  He told me that the wot pho was only open to thai people at the moment and that it'd be better to come back later - he proceeded to show me other places that may be off the beaten track (including a new tailor shop that had only just been opened to the public for exporting - 'have you not read the news today - this is best place for suit for tourist'  naievely I believed him.I agreed to go and for 20 baht I had my own 65 year old toothless tuk tuk driver who looked like something straight off the set of deliverance. He took me to some really shady places with local temples..  he parked the tuk tuk and showed me into some temples....he pointed some places for me to stop off at and take pictures...he had the tuk tuk parked up and took me on a lap of the place where I needed to pay 20baht to visit a local temple.  When i came out the tuk tuk was parked in a different spot....I kinda got a bit worried at this point but went with the flow....then he had to use the toilet and was gone for  about 10 mins...during which I had some other guy come over and light up a smoke beside me...he told me he was a lawyer over in the US and had been back to visit his 85 year old father blah blah..he asked me how much I paid for the tuk tuk and where he was taking me....When I told him he said "oh how do you know about this tailor place - this very good and normally only for thail people'...I felt priviliged to know about it...he kept talking about armani suits etc and how cheap it was to buy suits over here and how he wears them for work all the time...tuk tuk man came back after probably the longest toilet break ever....he stopped off at the tailor shop that the original guy had recommended...it was a lovely shop and the guy was all over me telling me about the cashmere suits he would make...I ended up buying 2 suits and he will deliver (for an extra price) to my australian address....I left the shop feeling a bit subdued and that I'd been taking for a massive ride...the tuk tuk driver couldn't find the place where I was staying and stopped off to ask about 10 people where it was - I was starting to get really frustrated by the whole thing and after eventually getting back to my motel it slowly started to sink in that I'd be had...I'm half tempted to go back and try to find the original guy and give him a piece of my mind but figured warning other people about it might be a better strategy....to be quite honest I think the whole of thailand (especially the tourist thing) is one complete scam - you just can't trust anyone.....My advice is say no to everything and everyone who offers you a good deal and go with your gut instincts...

I don't mean to be rude, but is just hard for me to understand how anyone will fall for this kind of things. I went to Thailand and got approached by several people offering me everything but heaven. Most of the times after hearing their speech, I would burst out laughing, at the lack of plausible of their proposals, they usually just smiled and moved on to the next guy.

" normally only for thail people'...I felt priviliged to know about it..."

are you serious, would you really think there is place in Thailand where they will offer great things to thais but leave forgo the profitable tourist market.... come on …. just some 5th grade common sense. I was feeling sad reading all the comments of people that got scam, but now is tough to feel sorry for such a people, when they used as much common sense as need to bury bills in the ground so a money tree will grow

to be fair, there are very nice tailor shops in thailand, for example, i'd went to ao phra nang with my boyfriend and he had tailormade a lovely suit there and we are able to collect it before we went home. there are scammers everywhere so it is definitely necessary to exercise precaution where ever you are in the world. life is never a bed of roses, even if it is, there are thorns in the bed? :P

Got hit by both the gem and the tailor made suit when we visited Bangkok last year. Our first trip to Asia and nobody had warned us. We said NO like a 1000 times but still got talked into visiting temples and gem and tailor shops on TukTuks. The first time it was rather fun, didn't buy anything but were tempted. Second time, we new it was a scam, just went along for the cheap ride. Did end up wasting a lot of time thought, and almost missed our dinner reservation.

I had one of tthese guys try to scam me for a suit. I told them that I was a lawyer, and that I had come frmo the Spore Office to deal with some clients in the BKK office. After that, they left me alone. When I said I didnt want a suit because it was poor quality, the Indian guy said "OK sir, have a nice day sir". I feel though that he would've tried to hard sell me if I hadn't have said I was a lawyer.
Had some Tuk Tuk Driver take me there. 40 baht for the trip. Beats the scumbags trying to take you to Khao San for "loi sip baht". Yeah right..

I had two trousers and a shirt made to measure in Bangkok (oh yes, it was a special day... but the tuk driver was quite honest about the fee he was going to get from the tailor) The clothes were delivered at my hotel the other day as promised, the fabric was my choice and the work had been done excellently. I had bargained a very cheap price, no way I could buy two trousers and a shirt for that price off the rack in Europe, barring bespoke work. I've no complaints what so ever!

My friend and I are both educated and well travelled and unfortunately we fell prey to the "free gas for tuk tuk day... oh and let me take you to this fabulous tailor" scam. These hoaxes are very eloborately planned out. One man randomly crossed our path and recommended a temple for us to see, and lo and behold another man at that very temple told us all about this fabuluos tailor deal.

We thought there was no way this could be a scam - given the elaborateness of the scheme. But alas... we were scammed. Thanfully our credit card companies helped us dispute the charge.

Live and learn...... it can happen to anyone.....

Just got back from thailand a couple weeks back , such a lovely country, spent most of time in the islands and was in bangkok for a couple of days and bought some suits made in a shop in the siam square area , had to bargain a little with them, but the fitting was nice and worth the money spent,I almost myself get caught up in this tuk tuk scam but luckily i had read all this before hand, but they did try their best though but i was well prepared...as i realized that if they do take you, then the commission they take is outrageous and finding a shop yourself is the best way to go about it. Anyways, the suits were great, ending up getting some shirts as well in the end...the shop was near novotel , macways tailors , nice guys..

Got back yesterday from Thailand and got hit with this one. Lucky an englishman came up to the 2nd storey at the shop and warned all of us at the shop that it was a scam. He then proceeded to tell me in absolute detail everything that I had been subject to in the past hour and a half or so. Nice temple they take you too though. We ended up having a great time with our tuk tuk driver the next three days. He informed us of the scams and that they are run by the mafia in BKK. When he wanted us to go to gem stores for petrol vouchers and the like he just asked us. Made all of our tuk tuks free and we got to go everywhere. He also gave us an awesome rate for a 12 hour day trip to the floating markets, elephants and to tiger temple.

My advice is to be up front with the tuk tuk drivers. . . We were told by ours that the New York "lawyer" and the "government official" are mafia and will do some fairly horiffic things if they do not comply. . .

Haha we got taken for this exact ride. To give them credit it was easily the most believable scam I came across in Thailand. The use of middle men that in my mind had nothing to gain made it extremely believable. All part of the experience of Bangkok I guess. The name of the tailor was Thai glorious and appeared extremely genuine! When we walked in we were immediatly escorted up stairs to a so-called private 'V.I.P' room where we were given free bottled water. The materials they showed us did feel of good quality but the final product definantly was not made of the same material. prob got ripped off by a total of 150-200 Australian dollars. End of the day I had an absolutely awesome time in thailand and have way more positive memories than negative ones.

Glorious Tailors is the WORST suit shop in Bangkok...at least that what is I would venture. I came looking for a decent suit, but they really are the BOTTOM. The coat was WAY too tight...and the pants too long. The material was horrendous too...nothing like they showed me. I would NOT recommend buying a suit in Thailand....but Glorious Tailors is the worst by far...

We have both been part of this well rehearsed scam. However, we have walked away with 3 hand made tailored male suits, 1 hand made dress and 2 hand made female suits, with 3 blouses and 3 shirts and 3 ties thrown in - all for under the price we would think of paying for in UK or KSA where we presently live for even 1 of each. We understand they are not Armani (where else would you go but Italy?) so we got what we ordered and expected. They were also happy to do carry out additional fittings and alterations - we checked with what we had been presented and what we finally walked away with. We also got taken to a jewellery shop, but, when we explained that we could not import into KSA (it is cheaper there in any case) they left us alone to have a look around the shop and leave. They let us leave unharrassed. Indeed, the manager in Glorious Tailor even took us to the local TAT office. In sum, an experience from a lovely holiday with the most kind and helpful people in the world we have met so far - even though we fell for this well worked scam, we do not feel out of pocket and hold no grudges to the people concerned - our suits fit well and we are very happy with them - try Oxford Street and Picadilly Circus for real scams which cost a great deal more in a country which does not have, nor show, the rampant poverty that Thailand does.

i cant believe im coming across this thread now! we have fallen for this exact scam! people involved in this are absolutely sick and should be ashamed of them selves. we honestly felt like going over there and giving them a piece of our mind as we saw all the people involved in our scam including the "the lawyer" from "the big apple" and the "kind man" who suggests all these places standing out side the GLORIOUS TAILORS shop chatting; so it turned out after all they did know each other!

i think once they get you to the tailor shop, its near enough impossible to walk away without buying as the salesmen are like leeches , honestly they just about give you enough space to breath. This scam took place on the first day we were in bangkok, so were a bit jet lagged ect, however still we should have realised why on earth would someone suggest a suit shop along with tourist sites???

however was a very nice trip in thailand apart from this scam, but looking back on to it i can see the funny side;as to how stupid we were actually going along with it!

A few years ago on my first trip to Bangkok, and having been warned about the scams, I was looking for a tailor to make some suits for me. I decided that anyone that used touts in front of their business would not see a dime from me. I found a guy on Soi 22 who did exactly what I needed at a very fair price. I'm now on my fourth trip and I have no need to go anywhere else. He's been very good to me and has, over time, become a friend. I wish they were all like that.

i not only got suits made a few years ago when in Bangkok and had time for follow-up fittings, but I returned on a quick trip this year in which I didnt have time for follow-up, so I took a chance and picked out fabric and Ambassador fashion sent the suits through the mail. They fit like a glove. I am very happy with the service and the quality of the suits that I have bought from him. He isn't a cheap tailor by BKK standards, but I wear suits every day, sometimes going right from airplane to courtroom to reception, so I need suits that can handle a lot of use and still look great. I will get more.

So I have to recount my experiences with the imfamous Glorious Tailors. Same story with the pickup, was wondering by Koasan Road looking at a map, intercepted by guy by the Unicef offices who said he worked for Unicef. Same Scenario, 20 Baht, temples, clothing exporters open for today only, I was completly dragged in hook, line and sinker.
This was my first time to Bangkok but had heard about the great deals one can get on tailored clothing so was actually interested in looking and perhaps purchasing a few items. So picked out the materials, two suits, six shirts and an over coat. Cashmere suits, supposedly a cashmere coat. Will not talk about the price but needless to say I was totally screwed. I returned a few days later for a fitting, most items were not quite right. Take in here, let out there etc. Having had the buyers remorse and investigated on the web, I knew I was being taken for a ride so insisted on another fitting to make sure the items were correct. On my return one of the suits was impeccable (although the material is questionable - they say it's cashmere, I have nothing to compare it to) The other suit was a disaster, hard to beleive they even came from the same place or from the same measurements - I completly rejected it and had them make a new one of the same finish or from the same tailor as the other suit. The over coat was also a disgrace, while it fit, the shoulders were a joke and the material looked like felt rather than Cashmere. I also rejected the coat, asking them to make a new one from different materials and a different finish. They had some finished garments on the racks which proved to be very useful in highlighting the bad workmanship that was being delivered to me. The shirt was also rejected based on the collers and cuffs which were all damaged in pressing. The down side of all of this is that the finished products will be sent to me so I have no idea what I will actually get so the excitement continues.
Will update when the garments arrive, if they arrive, the charges are on dispute with my credit card until then.

Look people, when people leave comments about how this tailor is good or that tailor is bad, how for f... sake can they prove it? Just use your common sense, if something is too good, walk away. Never let them send anything to your hotel, pick up the clothes up yourself, if things are not right, kick up a fuss (nicely, don't want anyone losing FACE). If potential customers are there, I'm sure they'll sort it out. Also, order clothes as early into your trip as possible, picking them upon the day you fly home is great for the tailor.

I had 1 suit and 1 Tux made by these guys about a year ago. Reasonably priced, you pretty much pay for the quality of the material you want. I was in and out of town for business and they were flexible and friendly with multiple fittings. I feel like I got an honest deal and am very happy with my suits. (about $550 total price) I Recommend Ambassador, also recommend the hotel on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors above the store. Great aircon, nice private bathrooms with good water pressure in the shower. Big bed, big towels, 1000 Baht($30) a night in downtown Bangkok, can't beat it. They've been good to me, and the next time i get down to bangkok will probably stay there again.

My sister and I went on the same tuk tuk ride when we were in Bangkok last year(April 2009). we were offered a ride around to see the sights of bangkok for about 10baht. From the outset we realised it was a scam, but we went along for the ride because we felt like it was part of the Bangkok experience. We were taken to the gem house and the tailor shop, James fashion international as well as some temples. We didn't get anything at the Gem house but I ended up getting a suit from James Fashion. I was surprised how good the quality of the suit was and I still wear it today. We knew what we were getting into, and we didn't spend any more money than we were prepared to part with. We just got back about a week ago from our honeymoon and while we were in Thailand we ended up going with this live entertainment.... I cannot believe what I've been reading. Don't get me wrong, it was one of the best days in Thailand while we were there, but I cannot believe that the whole thing was set up! Exact same scenario... came out of our hotel looking for a cab, little old man was sitting on the corner talking to us, very friendly and good English, said he was a teacher. Asked where we were going, and since it was our last day, we had seen mostly everything Bangkok had to offer, however he told us about local temples, that tourists didn't know about, told us about tuk tuks, that would take us around to all of them, and that you had to find a white licensed plate tuk tuk because it was government owned while the yellow plated ones were private and would screw you over... everything seemed so ligit what he was saying, so we went along. The tuk tuk driver was very nice and we enjoyed the entire day. The temples were beautiful, took us to the standing buddah which we hadn't seen yet, and lead us in the direction of each place, like I said he was very kind and we were enjoying ourselves. This is the part I cannot believe and how they do it is pretty good because we had no idea.... parked the tuk tuk in front of a guys van, and he told us he had to use the toilet. The owner of the van showed up and asked where the driver was, then asked us where we came from and how we liked Thailand. Told us he works in NYC as a tax lawyer and that he makes money to bring it home to his family. Asked where we were heading and such and we showed him the map that the old man wrote on. He was amazed that we knew of these places as no tourist does. The old man also wrote 'Thai Export' in a spot and told us about some promotion there. The 'NYC lawyer' asked how we knew about the Thai Export and said that the suits there are exceptional and cheap, they had a promotion and that that day was the last for it. We got all excited and wanted to check it out. When we got there, we didn't expect a store but went in anyway. Everything, I felt anyway, looked very professional and the manager of the store also seemed very genuine and knew what he was talking about. They sat us down and told us about the whole promo and it sounded great! I never thought that it was 'too good to be true' because I had seen TONS of tailor shops and their suits were made much cheaper, so since this guy cost a little more I figured, you were getting a quality product. Tons of things are made in places like China and Thailand, sent to Italy, the US, wherever, and THEN stamped with the logo, however still made in Asia, so I figured it was all legit. I couldn't stay for the fitting as I was leaving the next day. He told me he would ship it and email me a tracking number so I knew what was going on. He said he would ship it on the 17th of Sept, when we finally got home. I haven't received an e-mail as of yet, but I e-mailed him asking about the shipment of the items. I decided to google his shop to see if I could find his store and maybe see some pics, lo and behold I found this thread right at the top of my search. I swear that my jaw dropped as I was reading step by step the exact thing that happened to me happening to other people on this thread. I will follow up once/if I receive the items. I just can't believe how well paid out this scenario was!

Follow-Up

I received my suit and shirts. They were shipped on the 17th like he said they would be, and they took 6 business days to get here. After reading this thread I was so worried about being ripped off I even had a dream about it,... but I'll be honest, I love everything I got. They did not change the material as some people had suggested here, it's exactly the same as the pieces we felt and picked in the shop. My wife is a seamstress and she can agree with me there. They feel great on, and fit perfectly (which I was really worried about since I could not try them on.) Had I not read this post, I would have said it was a perfect transaction! However, because of the way it played out, ie. the old man, the tuk tuk and the 'NYC lawyer' all being a part of a play, I am baffled and upset that it was a setup all along. I still had a great day, and I must say that the day this played out, was our best day in Thailand so I do not regret it.
If anyone reads this before they go to Thailand, make sure you have time to try your stuff before leaving, this way you can take it with you and you know what you're getting. I was worried but fluked out!

Glorius Tailor in Bangkok ist really the worst tailor. Stay back from them. The story at the top could be mine! The same thing happens to my friend and me.
We were in Bangkok and bought three suits from Glorius Tailor in Bangkok. The name changed from that company to Glorous. The old name was Voglee Tailor. Guys stay back from them. Ok, the Jakcet is fittet. But the pants are not fittet correcly. And they are too expensiv. Per suit they take 8000 Baht. Other good Tailor takes the half (4000 Baht).

I hope this message reech you before you bought there something.

Best regards...

they are not tailors - they are "measurers" - the material all gets sent to the same sweat shops so it doesn't matter which measurer you go to. Best thing to do is pick out material for 10 items and have the measurer get one made. Check it with a fine tooth comb after at least 3 fittings. Then, if all is OK, order the rest. Bargain hard and only give a nominal down payment. They will try to upgrade the material saying it is best to buy better quality. I would always tell them that I am lazy and want slacks that I don't have to iron - wash and wear. Also, ensure that you have them put a liner in your slacks and get a foreign size zipper and pockets.

As I am still here supposed to go to try the suit on tomorrow for it to be mmade an delivered in 2 weeks when I get back to bangkok.
Any chance of getting some of the money back...like cancelling some of the order which is 1 suit and 8 shirts for 18000baht?

Hilarious! Luckily we ended up buying only one suit (also at Glorious). We spent a sleepless night as they hadn't delivered when they said they would, but in the end all worked out well. The quality seems to be fine, though if we'd known before we'd never gone there in the first place!

By the way, we'd just returned from Vietnam, and to us being cheated in such a friendly way (with smiling people and all ;-)) was a welcome alternative to the aggressive and violent practices of the Vietnamese! There things were literally ripped of your body, taxi-drivers would literally kidnap you for ransom, and people would just never help you or choose your side. We felt really unsafe and helpless there, which we never felt like in Thailand (nor in Cambodia or India, for that matter..)

Guys looking for Saville Row experience for $100-200 are delusional. There are many places in BKK to get a cheap suit made. But the fabric will be inferior and the tailoring sloppy. Which is okay if you don't care and just want to say you got a 'custom' suit and 5 shirts for $99. But if you want a really well made suit with very good imported fabric you will pay over $1,000/suit. The suit will always look great and last many years. But you can't get a Rolls Royce for the price of a Yugo. And why would anyone take the advice of a tuk driver? Back home you wouldn't take investment advice from someone at a homeless shelter. Why listen to a guy wearing flip flops and breathing carbon monoxide all day for a 'living'? And it's unrealistic to have quality tailoring done in 24-36 hours. Wake up guys.

Same thing happened to me, so the whole story and tuk tuk trip sound familiair. One month after the fitting on January 9, I hadn't received my 15,000 THB payed for suit. Well, I bought an experience. Shit happens.

To protect other people, on February 9 I mailed my story to the Thai police, the Tourist Police and the embassy of my country. Three weeks later I received a perfect fitting suit without any flaws. Not sure yet if the material is of good quality. The package in which the suit was folded had a marker writing "Made: 10-02-2011". That's one day after I told my story to the authorities. It might be a coincidence, but I think they have contacted Glorious.

Just give it a try. I'm happy with my suit, but wouldn't recommend going there. As said, I mostly paid for an experience. Now I've got a suit with a story.

Same scam, short chat with some nice guy from the streets with temple advice (not the real interwsting ones) TukTuk took us to smiling buddha and we met a old genuine man who is in BKK for wedding suites...next stop glorious, talk to Mr Rajun...you know the rest. 1 suit 3-piece suit, 6 tailored Shirts and 3 ties for 420 Euros. 3 Fitting sessions and all within 30hrs, quality seems good. Suit and shirts fit well. If you want something tailored go to a tailor in Pahurat district by yourself. I found out you can get a suit for under 100€. And anyway use the taxi not TukTuk but only if they give you a ride with Taxi meter, otherwise take another one.

Same story with me. It was on Friday, our first day in Bangkok. We have ordered 3 suits and 6 shirts for 30.000 Baht. On the next day the clothes were sent to our hotel for fitting, right on time. The guy asked if it would be acceptable to pick up the ready clothes on Monday. We had an appointment on Monday (today) at the shop. I had a weird feeling because i had to ask 3 taxi driver showing the business card of the tailor, until the 4th was willing to drive us to the shop. The first 3 were only shaking their heads and were keep asking if i already payed. (hm ?)

But finally we got there and to my surprise the suits were ready, perfectly fit, the garment was the same, which we have chosen. I would say i have nothing to complain the goods and prices are OK. Apart the marketing strategy of the shop, the rest is OK. Maybe I could buy the clothes even cheaper, but it was a deal, after all i am satisfied. Let's say a win-win deal, for that price i could never buy a suit in Budapest, not speaking a tailor-made one.

Unbelievable, my friends and I felt great about our experience with Thai Glorious and our tuk tuk driver today until we read this thread... We're naturally very concerned. The tailor did show up at our hotel tonight with seem shirts, pants, and a draft jacket and we were all pleased with the quality of the material as well as the cut. As long as we actually received what was promised I think we'll feel a bit better. However, downright aggravating to feel swindled and I will definitely walk away from this trip feeling extremely distrustful of the Thai people... At least as they seem to treat tourists.

In the interim, our card companies have been notified and we have some plans to notify the Thai Glorious a well as any local help we can get. My hope is that at least we actually receive e suits in the same quality we saw tinight. They are supposed to be sent from here to the US without another chance to try them on. Crossing my fingers and will repost with the outcome...

A group of us recently fell victim to the "palace is closed" scam and ended up buying suits. The scam was so intricate and involved so many seemingly unconnected people.

We confronted the people when they arrived at out hotel (yes, we were that stupid) with the first cut of the suits and told them we knew we had been scammed. We had already called the credit card company. Willing to get out of this deal, we offered to each buy one suit IF they were actually wool-cashmere as promised.

A simple burn test revealed that they were in fact polyester and we told them that we did not want them. Hotel security escorted them out.

We will see what happens with credit card companies. Anyone else ever confront their scammers like this? It was a little scary given they had our hotel name.

This is like a support group for us and we're all stumped as to how something like this could happen... I was scammed by Glorious Tailors for $2000. The crazy thing is that I called my credit card company and notified them immediately (within an hour) as someone at my hotel tipped me off. My credit card company told me that they'd take core of me but we agreed that I should call and attempt to cancel the transaction immediately. I spoke to the person I worked with at Glorious a little over an hour after the transaction. He was immediately aggressive and said the clothes were already made. When I told him that I was protected by my card company and I would come out of this triumphant he laughed. Well so far he's right...

I hold the highest level mainstream Visa product and cannot believe that I'm left holding the bag thus far. I've been vehemently fighting the charge but they are actually acknowledging defeat from the overseas merchant bank. I can't believe it. Thailand, we've all come to find out, is rife with scams. The internet has so many documented cases regarding Glorious and Voglee and yet the consumer is very much in jeopardy. For those of you that have successfully challenged the charge with your card companies, how did you do it? Were any of them with Chase?

Same thing happened to us. It was not Glorious Tailor or James Tailor, but SUP Fashion, not far from the Ministry of Tourism. We paid 15000 Bahts for a suit, vest, 2 shirts, tie, and postage fees. They sent the suit about 2 weeks later to my Indonesian address, and it was a disaster! Different fabric, the measurements are wrong, the collar on the shirt was not like we ordered, and the lapels on the suit was not symmetrical! It was wider on one side than the other!!! On top of everything, they did not even send the tie!!!
I've seen other comments on this site where their suits ended up being very properly made, but I guess you are lucky. My advise, be careful that you won't get taken on a (tuk-tuk) ride!

And to the first commenters who said that people are so stupid to have gotten scammed, let me tell you something. In hindsight, I admit that we did not think everything through very hard. But you must remember that most people let their guards down during their holidays. And one more thing, we are not commenting here to whine or complain. We are simply sharing our experiences to warn other people so that they would be more vigilant.

Hi,

Two weeks ago I bought a suit at Glorious. 10.000 baht for a costume, well paid but the quality is very good. My grandma is a tailor and she approved it fully! Maybe the scam is that I paid to much but at least I've got a decent suit. I went for two fittings and everything was OK, no suspicion at all.

I really don't know what to think of all the comments above... All I can say is that I'm happy with it!

First of all, I would like to thank the OP for making us aware of the scam. I was recently a victim of the exact same scenario right down to the T. Thanks to his post, I realized it was a scam after I purchased the suit but before receiving the goods. I contacted my credit card company right away to dispute it. I was able to successfully dispute the transaction and get all of my money back. For other victims, I would recommend not taking the suit and contacting your CC company to dispute it right away. For those who have already received it, I would still recommend trying to dispute it. Just be honest and provide as much information as possible to your CC company.

Exactly the same thing happened to us two weeks ago. Got there by 'Government TukTuk' and ordered two suits and a dress. Put it on the credit card but as soon as we left we felt cheated. The whole scenario just seemed too perfect. As soon as we got back to our hostel we found this thread and called our credit card company straight away. They told me the transaction was pending, i.e it left my card but hadn't 'arrived' anywhere. They immediately cancelled the card and put a note on system that this was a fraudulent company: a scam. Thankfully the credit card company didn't authorise the payment and therefore the cheating scamming bastards never got their money. If this has happened to you, ring your bank and be honest and it should get sorted.

Never hear about this kind of scams... Two days after, we realized. It was a scam. They never gave us our suit, oh sorry, ok, they gave us a short trouser and a bad cut jacket... of very poor quality. We paid for sh.. I'm very disappointed and distressed. But the guy from the bank told me that the investigation needs 90 days. Could those, who successfully disputed, give me some advices. What should I do next?
