In one of the 7 eleven shops in Jomtien I noticed a scam going on with the staff.

this will allways be involved with a 1000 baht note. I bought a packet of cigarettes one day and give the assistant 1000b he give me the change and I started to count it immedietly he talked to one of the girls on the other till and she handed him a 500b note which he then give me, he was pretending his till was short of 500b notes,if I had put the change straight in my pocket I would never of known. I didn't think too much about it at the time but the same thing happened a few more times and it twigged what they are up to . there are hundreds of farangs shopping there daily they must be making a fortune

My family and I went to Wat Arun temple on the 13 April 2008 via a tour agency. The location of the stall is along the side gate at the car park (?). The stall is just outside the gate. It is ran by a lady and she sells titbits.

We saw a packet of sugared tamarind on sale and we were told by the stall holder that it is 35 Baht, it was a small packet. My mum peeled off a 100 Baht note and gave it to the stall holder. She then talked to my aunt. Realizing that the stall holder had not given her the change, my mum asked for it in English, the stall holder then spoke a litany of Thai which not one of us understood, our Thai tour guide came along and we told her what happened.

The tour guide then talked to the stall holder in Thai and the stall holder kept insisting she had given us the change. There were like 6 of us there who insisted that she did not. When I asked the tour guide to ask her who she had given the change to, she pointed at the space between my mum and my aunt. Go figure.

In the end, I told them to forget about it as the stall holder was not going to budge.

Near our hotel, there was this fruit stall selling a big packet of sugared tamarind for 35 baht and 100 baht for 3 packets.

Not only did lose our 65 baht of change and we lost out on the quantity too.

Overall, the trip to Bangkok were enjoyable. I am making another trip in 3 months time.

Scams of 7 eleven shops are happening everywhere. Just make sure you check your change before leaving the counter. They usually pull these fast scams and short change customers when there is a queue building in the shop.

The same happened to me at the 7-11 on Soi Rambuttri (Nr Khao San). My change was 100 baht short. I'm always willing to give someone the benefit of the doubt but the girl even had the extra note hidden in her hand, so it couldn't have been a mistake.
