Arriving on the beach in Koh Phangan the women at Fairyland resort quoted me a price with her little calculator of 18000 baht - rediculous, of course, so I waved her away to leave - too much. She persisted, of course - special deal. 9,0000 baht. No, way too much, and annoyed at the whole process, I tried to leave. She came again with package deal - showed me some paper of other 'deals' but because i was alone, 3,000 baht for 2 nights and the next was free. still, 2000 baht a night was alot for me. I was tired and the beach front places were all full. So, I agreed, suspicious, but had her write out a reciept for 3 nights paid in full, no surprises.
Long story short, 2am on third night she is banging and screaming at my door. WTF? I have my receipts, but doesn't matter, she calls in a police, which probably was not a police, but it's 2am, i'm leaving at 5 for a long day, and not certain if there is a way out of this clear scam. A local friend said it was a real cop, and i had no recourse because it said 3000 a night - even though it had four places with 3 nights, 6,000 baht, paid in full, o balance. I paid, and had her spell out that id get my 1000 'key deposit' back at 5:30 when i left, not 8am. That sucked. Have them spell out and you write in english and have them sign the agreed price.

If theres any dispute with that pre-paid voucher upon check in you have some recourse as you paid with a credit card and through a legitimate company and do not have to deal with any less than honest agents who make things uncomfortable if they have lost face over the deal.
Who needs agents anyway? They only take a rake off. Sometimes negotiating directly with the resort or hotel if you are arriving at short notice can bring healthy discounts especially out of peak season.
