Quad Bike Scam on Ko Samet |

This happened to me and a group of friends in June 2007;
We had rented 5 quad bikes from a Thai man on Ko Samet for, what we were later told was way too much money for the 3 days. Fair enough, we thought, we've paid it now so never mind. On one of the days i had a very small accident and caused a tiny crack on the fibre galss on the bike. When the Thai men came to collect the bikes from our hotel they thouroughly checked all of the bikes then came across mine and started demanding 30,000 baht. Yeah righto. They had arrived with a laminated sheet with a picture of a quad bike and arrows to various parts of the bike and a price for damage to that particular area! This proved to us this was planned. One of the lads we were with lives in Thailand and was adamant this was a scam and told me to give them nothing. After a long time of arguing (and not once threatened with the police, as you would expect!) the Thai's seemed to realise they were getting nothing! In the end i gave them 500baht and told them to be glad they got that. Cheecky bastards!
